The Co-op is to put its name to Manchester’s planned second arena in a 15-year deal.
Continuing evidence of the sustained interest in East Manchester of City Football, which began with the Etihad itself, continued through the world leading football academy (which David Vayro of the Blog is proud to have been closely involved with) and has been sustained in the form of a variety of strategic residential developments.
It’s easy to say that the owners of Manchester City football Club can afford it, but it is equally true to say that they could have put their money into many more immediately profitable ventures. This shows what can happen when business gets it right in terms of community and investment.
Oak View Group has agreed the naming rights deal for its £350m venue that will be built next to the Etihad Stadium.
The arena, to be constructed next to the Etihad Stadium will be known as “Co-op Live”.
Planning permission was granted last week and the 23,500 seater venue will, when completed in 2023, become the UK’s largest indoor arena.
