EU Protectionism: For every 1 trade restriction dismantled by the EU in 2012 more than 8 were created

Now there’s a statistic. The EU may be slowly clambering out of recession, but recessionary behaviours are going to take some time to be corrected.

One natural reaction to an economic downturn is to draw in the horns and protect the borders. Clearly, the common market and Europe-wide structures have not been sufficiently robust to mitigate this tendency.
