Scottish Public Sector Tendering costs up 50% in 5 years

The Scottish Building Federation is reported on the STV website as claiming that construction companies are shying away from Public Sector work because the costs associated with the chance of winning the work have sky rocketed.

If this is reflected more broadly across the UK (and there is every reason for that to be the case) then SMEs are yet again being marginalised in their attempts to win a share of the market in construction.

We posted last week about the increased proportion of reinvestment of public expenditure in local markets which follows on the engagement of SMEs and this local benefit is being slowly but surely strangled as public sector costs price all but the deepest pockets out of the race.
