“National” procurement strategy devastation of NE contractors taken up by Lord Shipley

We blogged last week (http://tinyurl.com/kcsag8z) on an open letter written by three major contractors in the North East of England complaining vociferously about the damage being done to the construction industry in that region by the government’s “national” procurement policy.

They will be encouraged that Lord Shipley planned to raise the issue in the House of Lords yesterday as reported by The Journal, here:


This issue has lots of mileage left in it and its longevity has been assured by the profile it will receive as a result of the Lib Dem peer’s intervention.

Coming at the same time as the Public Administration Committee rumblings about the lack of support to UK businesses in public procurement strategy (on which we posted earlier today) it is further evidence of the groundswell of opinion in favour of a more pragmatic and UK focussed approach to compliance with EU public procurement obligations….
