The benefits of cloud based IT solutions appear obvious. The constant pressure to reduce the cost of procurement processes and procedures means that “the Cloud” looks, at first glance, to be a panacea for lifting the burden of cost and driving efficiencies into both public and private procurement.
One of the perceived downsides of cloud based ICT activity (be it procurement based or otherwise) is the security of the data put “out there”.
There are many proponents of such non-owned IT strategies who argue vociferously that security concerns can be managed. ITPro reports a debate in the House of Commons which raised exactly this concern with added teeth, in the wake of the Prism “snooping” disclosures.
If it is has reached Westminster and is being discussed by MPs you can bet it is not going away anytime soon…
