It has been a bugbear of ours for some time that the procurement function is often regarded by businesses as something of a poor relation. It is too infrequently seen as a non-core activity and is often left to operate in a commercial vacuum.
BRC has clearly reached the view that sharpening up procurement practice is one way in which high street retailers can combat the challenge of online retailing.
Perhaps if procurement processes and procedures had traditionally been regarded and treated as a business critical activity then BRC members may have been better prepared to withstand this assault on their market in the first place?
