The government is clearly prepared to get its hands dirty in the ongoing struggle to improve the experience of SME’s engaged in public procurement.
The details have been published of three cases where the actual or threatened intervention of the Cabinet Office Mystery Shopper has resolved payment issues experienced by SME’s in their dealings with public bodies.
The three authorities who will be embarrassed to have their names associated with this story are NHS North West London, HMRC and the DoD. To be fair to HMRC and DoD, however, the issues were with late payment by their Prime Contractor (although processes were subsequently strengthened.
