EC to take action over Broadband Development UK “anti-competitiveness”

It seemed only to be a matter of time before the Commission stopped simply taking an interest in the Broadband Development UK framework procurement and started taking action.

BT and Fujitsu were the only two bidders appointed to the framework which was uncomfortable enough but now, as the attached TechWeekEurope report indicates that Fujitsu is pulling out of the competition in Cumbria leaving BT in a one horse race to add to its growing portfolio of BDUK contracts.

The objective of the BDUK structure (as appears to be the case with so much government procurement at the moment) was to provide a route to market avoiding as much of the “bureaucracy” attendant on public procurement as possible.

The guy with the red tape is, however, shortly going to be knocking on the UK’s front door…
