The European Federation of Parquet Importers is lobbying the Commission to make good on its threat to commence proceedings against Germany for anti-competitive practices in its domestic construction products market (which we posted about on 22 June).
On the face of it, imposing a strict requirement for a domestic standard to be met (in this case the U-Mark) breaches the specification provisions of the Public Sector Directive where, as is argued by EFPI (and others, including the Commission), there is a perfectly adequate CE standard already in place.
In these recessionary times, and especially where the German Government is looking for ways to reassure its business community that it really is on their side, this one may run and run.
