Rio +20 does not appear yet to be living up to the conference in 1992. In the margins, commentators have made much of the absence of some key international figures.
Yesterday, however, saw the launch by the United Nations Environment Programme of the International Sustainable Public Procurement Initiative (helpfully reduced to SPPI).
Supported by 30 governments and international institutions the objective of the SPPI is to put that political weight behind the developing drive towards focusing public procurement on goods, works and services which optimise sustainability.
